I was fortunate to have been raised by parents that valued the outdoor experience, in a geographic area with public land and public access. It was realistic to be fishing or hunting within a few minutes' drive of my home.

As a result, I spent my youth hunting and fishing, and also chose a career in natural resources.

​

In my late teens through late thirties I focused on chasing geese. Occasionally hunting deer during firearm season on public lands 'in the big woods' as part of a deer shack.​

​

Meanwhile I worked a career as a professional forester and aerial firefighter along with side jobs to save money for a land purchase. With land ownership I switched my attention to forestry and habitat improvements prioritized for wildlife, specifically deer and birds. Designing hunting strategies went hand in hand with the improvements.

My background in public and private land forestry, timber sales, habitat improvement, hunting strategy, asset management, and land ownership provide a strong base.​ My work has also been published in leading deer hunting magazines (Whitetail Life (2), Deer and Deer Hunting - fall 2026).
